If first impressions count for anything, the Tap 11 gets off to a flying start. At a whisker less than 11mm thick, it’s 3mm thinner than Microsoft’s Surface Pro cinema hd display 150w power adapter, and it’s lighter, too; indeed, Sony’s 780g tablet makes the Surface Pro feel decidedly overweight. As a result, it doesn’t feel quite as rock-solid and substantial as a result, but it isn’t plasticky or lightweight. The Tap 11’s body feels taut and well constructed, and the soft-touch matte plastics at the rear and the rounded, rubberised edges make it comfy to hold and easy to grip.
Design
At first glance, it's hard to believe that Sony fits a full Windows 8 PC into the waifish Vaio Tap 11 chassis. At 12.0 x 7.4 x 0.39 inches (without the keyboard) and 1.7lbs it's slightly longer and wider than Microsoft's Surface Pro 2 vgp bps24 original, but thinner and lighter. Sony's machine is still bigger than the iPad 4, particularly in length, but we're still impressed by the extent of the company's engineering.
Sony's creation here is one of the prettiest Windows tablets out there, period, and not only because it is so slim and comes at just 1.7 pounds (770 g). Sony has dressed the soft-feel magnesium alloy slate in white, and has included a kickstand to prop the display when using the tablet as a laptop, as the keyboard is not attached to it with hinges, or a dock connector. We can't say we dig the “unhinged” concept, with anything larger than 10”, as the screen part becomes somewhat uncomfortable to hold while watching videos on a long flight, for example. Sony's cinema hd display netzteil execution with the thin kickstand doesn't help in that respect, too, though it is good for desk work.
The back of the keyboard is made of brushed aluminium and the top is the same white plastic as the back of the screen. The whole looks great with the keyboard in closed position on top of the tablet/display, at which point the Tap 11 dell precision m6500 akku measures a more than reasonable 188 x 304.6 x 9.9 mm. In notebook form with the keyboard attached it weighs 1.35 kg and as a tablet alone it weighs 830 grams. You can tell a real Windows tablet from the bevy of ports and slots around it, and the Tap 11 doesn't disappoint here. Since the goal has obviously been to make a standalone slate, the screen part houses all the ports and slots, and the keyboard only serves for typing and screen protection. You get a full-size USB 3.0 port and mini HDMI under a protective lid on the left, as well as a SIM card and microSD slots up top, again with a protective flap, and next to a Sony Assist key netzteil yoga 3 pro that enters the BIOS and troubleshooting mode.
It also supports an active digital stylus - using technology from N-Trig rather than the more common Wacom, as was in 2012's Vaio Duo 11 - which in this case is a pleasingly high-quality metal pen medion akoya p2212t netzteil that feels much akin to an architect's propelling pencil. Two barrel buttons control secondary features, and it's capable of very precise digital inking. Unfortunately, the pen is too thick to dock into an internal silo, and so Sony provides an underwhelming plastic clip which slots onto the side.In doing so it blocks the micro HDMI and USB 3.0 port on the upper left hand side, which are already covered up with an annoying little plastic flap. The power socket is also on the left - Sony's c22 ux31 battery AC adapter is pleasingly compact, and has a USB charging port in addition to the cable for the tablet itself - while the volume rocker, power button, and headphone jack are on the right.
Sony's other included accessory beyond the pen is the wireless keyboard, which is supplied as standard with the tablet. It has a full-sized layout with all the shortcuts familiar from Sony's Vaio laptop acer iconia a511 ladekabel range, as well as a multitouch trackpad. The latter can be switched off independently of the keyboard using a fiddly low-profile switch on the upper right edge. The power/lock key and the volume rocker on the right are easy to feel and press, with nice clicky feedback. The circular metallic lock key is done in the Omnibalance design tradition of recent Xperia phones and tablets, immediately implying this tablet is a Sony asus adp 120rh, regardless of the operating system. We get a physical home key with the Windows logo on it underneath the display, which is a bit too recessed and hard to easily press, with shallow tactile feedback.
Keyboard
The keyboard is rather thin in its turn, and with brushed aluminum looks on the back. It snaps magnetically onto the display, serving as a screen protector. The keys are recessed, so you needn't worry they'll scratch the panel, and there is a nice touchpad in the middle of the palm rest, with clicky one-piece mouse keys underneath. The touchpad lenovo yoga 3 pro power supply dots are slightly elevated to mark its existence, but otherwise patterned in the palm rest's color, giving the keyboard an uninterrupted look.
As keyboards go, the need for it to be lightweight and portable means the buttons have minimal travel, though if you've used a recent ultrabook it shouldn't be too significant a difference. Best of all, it clings magnetically to the front of the tablet, both recharging and protecting the touchscreen dell m3800 netzteil while it's in your bag. Our only complaint is that the magnets aren't the strongest, and it's relatively easy to knock the 'board off. There's also a powered stylus, which works with a digitizer in the screen to give you precision touch control and drawing. Both the keyboard and the stylus don't need setting up at all - just turn them on and they'll work, which is handy.
Inside, there's a choice of Pentium 3560Y, Core i3-4020Y, Core i5-4120Y, or Core i7-4610Y processors, paired with 4GB of RAM and either 128GB, 256GB, or 512GB of SSD storage. Intel HD and HD 4200 graphics are used, meaning the Vaio Tap 11 yoga 3 pro power adapter is - unsurprisingly - not going to be much of a gaming machine. Connectivity includes WiFi a/b/g/n and Bluetooth 4.0, along with NFC, and there's GPS, an accelerometer, gyroscope, and digital compass. You even get an IR blaster which, with the right app, turns the Vaio Tap 11 ac adapter pa 1650 78 into a universal remote for your TV; Sony's Vaio Remote Control software is capable of controlling hardware from a broad variety of brands, not just its own BRAVIA range.
The Bluetooth keyboard is just 4.5mm thick, so even when it's tacked on, the Vaio Tap 11 acer aspire r13 netzteil is still thinner than an ultrabook. Decked up in white with aluminum back, it looks rather nice with its chiclet buttons, and despite the thin frame, we get decent 1mm of key travel, making it very suitable for some serious typing. There aren't any charging ports around it, which probably contributed to the slim profile, and the keyboard latches onto a small three-prong dock connector in the tablet itself, juicing up from it when it serves as a display cover. It has an on/off slider at the top, along with an LED charging status indicator.
The keyboard and screen interact wirelessly via Bluetooth, so you use them detached from one another. The only time you physically attach them is when you're charging the keyboard, which latches onto the display via a magnetic connector. The fact that the two are detached can be truly practical in certain situations, but since it uses Bluetooth, when you put it in airplane mode you can't use the keyboard anymore. That's a serious issue for something that's also supposed to be a laptop akku ux31a computer. The chiclet keys provide a nice stroke and Sony included a stylus that's precise and easy to handle
Performance
The Sony’s touchscreen is the star of the show. With a Full HD resolution crammed into a 11.6in diagonal, text and images are absolutely pin-sharp, viewing angles are wide, and images look gorgeous. The maximum brightness isn’t as high as some tablets fsp045 rhc netzteil we’ve seen, but at 384cd/m[sup]2[/sup], it’s bright enough for outdoor use, and the measured contrast ratio of 817:1 is solid. Colour accuracy is great, too, and unlike some of its peers, the Sony’s panel covers almost every corner of the sRGB gamut, serving up a wide array of bold, saturated hues and lifelike skin tones.
Low-voltage processors aren't going to set the world alight in terms of performance, at least not if you also want any sort of battery life dell venue 11 akku, though the 1.5GHz dualcore Core i5 version of the Vaio Tap 11 on our test bench is certainly capable enough to run the sort of apps most people will ask of it.We started off by looking at Geekbench, an artificial test of processor and memory performance. The Vaio scored 3573 in multicore mode; in SunSpider, the JavaScript test of browser performance, Internet Explorer on the Vaio completed in 177.4m/s (faster is better). In contrast, an iPad 4 dell venue 11 pro ladegerätook around 880ms to complete the same SunSpider test.
Inside, Intel’s Haswell platform takes pride of place. The processor in question, the Core i5-4210Y, operates at only 1.5GHz, with Turbo Boost pushing clock speeds up to 1.9GHz when required, but its ultra-low-voltage design draws a maximum of only 11.5W. Yet, with 4GB of DDR3L low-voltage RAM and a Samsung 128GB SSD alongside, the Tap 11 acer switch 10 netzteil feels anything but underpowered. Windows 8 feels slick and spritely, and an overall result of 0.54 in our Real World Benchmarks proves there’s sufficient power for heavyweight applications, such as Adobe Photoshop or Sony Vegas Pro.
We changed our performance graph for this test by getting rid of the Windows Live Movie Maker results so we could compare the new generation of the Pentium processor with the previous generations and its current competitors. As you can see in the graph, the Pentium 3560Y is clearly similar in performance to the last generation of Core i3's, and higher in performance than the Atom Z3740 found in the Asus Transformer Book T100TA ladeger?t asus zenbook ux31a and the Pentium 987 found in the VivoBook X202E.The Core i5-4210Y is an attempt to get better performing chips down to levels of power that will allow for something closer to the battery life of the iPad 4 without losing the fuller capabilities of Windows. Intel is suggesting that in some light-use scenarios, the chip could use just six Watts of power, which is around a third of the maximum power used by the higher performance Haswell ultraportable chips in the latest MacBook Air asus t100 ladeger?t.
Battery life
Sony says the Vaio Tap 11 gets 9? hours of battery life, but in our standard test (continuous video playback in airplane mode with the screen brightness at 100 cd/m2 and headphones plugged in) it only lasted 3 hours and 45 minutes. That's low indeed for a portable hybrid; the average for devices like this is closer to 6 hours.Sony has squeezed a decent-sized battery into the Tap 11’s chassis, too - a result of 8hrs 41mins in our light-use battery test isn’t to be sniffed at. Admittedly, that’s nowhere near as long as some Haswell-powered Ultrabooks - for example, Dell’s XPS 12 acer aspire vn7 netzteil - but it’s a darn sight better than the Ivy Bridge CPU in the Surface Pro, which lasted 5hrs 52mins in the same test. It was only in our video rundown test, in which we play a video on repeat with the screen calibrated to a brightness of 120cd/m[sup]2[/sup], that the Tap 11 dell venue 11 pro charger 24w struggled to keep up with less powerful rivals - it lasted only 5hrs 21mins under these conditions.
For the moment, though, the Vaio Tap 11 has plenty to recommend it. The form-factor is impressively slim and well-constructed, the display is excellent, and the digital pen functionality works well. Sony's runtimes may not be the very best we've seen from a Windows 8 slate dell la45nm131, but that's a compromise between longevity, size, and weight. As an alternative to a traditional touchscreen ultrabook it's a compelling one, though make sure you really need full Windows 8 since ARM-based tablets offer many of the features but with twice the battery life.
The chief compromise one has to do with the Vaio Tap 11 is battery life. Such a thin tablet doesn't leave much room inside for a large battery pack, and Sony quotes about 5.5 hours of endurance from the 3800 mAh pack, despite the frugal Haswell processors. It is still pretty good for such a thin and light standalone Windows tablet dell m4800 power supply uk, but Android and iOS slates are usually running twice as long, and the same goes for most current Windows convertibles with Haswell, so there's a price to pay for the Tap 11's footprint.
Conclusion
Sony Vaio Tap 11 is one of the most evolved instances of the new device breed that became possible with Microsoft's touch-friendly Windows 8 hp probook 640 g1 power supply, coupled with the frugal Haswell processor family of Intel. It is incredibly thin and light for an 11” Windows slate, and still manages to pack some punch, giving you access to legacy programs and a million of peripherals.Intel is still working on getting the right formula for its lower-powered chips, and that's very much clear in the Sony Vaio Tap 11 hp 65w hp probook 650 g1 ac adapter charger. The dream of having a full Windows 8 PC in a truly iPad-like package is so close to being achieved here, but remains imperfect.
It looks smart from the front, and its detailed 1080p screen only adds to that. It's nicely thin and light, without sacrificing too many ports. The keyboard is pleasant to use, and the included stylus is very useful for getting at the most fiddly desktop elements. The bobbly trackpad is odd, but we ended up liking it.Alternatively, if you don't need legacy Windows program support and aren't going to use any wacky peripherals that need Windows drivers, you can always get the feathery iPad Air, or a slim Android tablet like the Sony Xperia Tablet Z apple cinema hd display 23 power supply for half the Tap 11 price, though with much less storage capacity.
