If you look at as many laptops as we do in a given year, you'll know after a few thousand words (maybe even just a few hundred) how a given one will feel in everyday use. And if you're under deadline, as we always are, the pain points of using that laptop-especially its keyboard-will shine through after a paragraph or two.
Design
Clad in a dark navy blue that shimmers with a faint purple hue under direct light, the Asus X205TA captures the simple, refined look of its more expensive siblings. The streamlined plastic body features soft, rounded edges with a smooth matte finish, and is available in red, white and gold. It's not as playful as the two-toned HP Stream 11, but some people may appreciate the Asus' toned-down looks. My only issue with the X205TA's asus ux31a original netzteil appearance is that it accumulates fingerprints at an alarming rate, and it takes more than just a casual wipe with a cleaning cloth to get rid of them.
Just two USB2 ports are found on the right edge of the X205TA, and there are no USB3 ports whatsoever, which is slightly disappointing. You do at least get Bluetooth in addition to 802.11n Wi-Fi, so you can connect wireless peripherals easily. On the left is a microSD card slot, a headset jack and a micro HDMI port lenovo yoga 13 netzteil for hooking the laptop up to an external monitor. The built-in speakers are fine: they’re loud, bright, and just a little tinny so you’ll definitely want a pair of headphones if you’re going to be watching videos and listening to music.
To an extent, these kinds of adjustment pains come with the territory on any ultraportable laptop. The EeeBook is a netbook-style Windows machine meant to compete with Chromebooks, making use of Microsoft's price break on Windows 8.1 With Bing to deliver a functional productivity machine at $199.99. It's a throwback to Asus' pioneering EeePC netbooks m92 netzteil of the late 2000s and early 2010s, which in their own time broke new price ground, ushering in some of the first under-$500, then under-$400, ultraportables.
The screen isn’t particularly good, although the 1,366x768 pixel panel is no worse than the screens you’ll find on other cheap laptops. In our calibration test it was only able to display 54.7 per cent per cent of the sRGB colour gamut, while the 437:1 contrast ratio and fairly narrow viewing angles are nothing to shout about. Images with bright colours look somewhat washed out, and this is made worse if you're viewing ad 3014stn the screen from an angle that isn't straight-on. Careful adjustment of the hinge is required to get the best viewing experience. Our main concern is that the screen doesn't have a matt coating, which means it is very susceptible to being obscured bright interior lighting and sunlight.
Keyboard
The keyboard, meanwhile, is surprisingly capable. The keys don’t have a huge amount of travel but they’re light, responsive and not in the least bit spongey, making them perfectly acceptable to work on for hours on end. The touchpad is responsive, too, meaning navigating around Windows and using multi-fingered gestures is easy.In fairness, this netbook/laptop has a 11.6-inch screen, and the screen, to a great extent, dictates the layout, key pitch, and key sizing of any keyboard that can accompany it. And so it goes here: The X205TA sony vgp ac19v37 has an island-style keyboard-that is, with a rim of space around each key-but the keys are sized down a bit more than most folks will like, and most are slightly rectangular, making the front-to-back distance between rows tricky to get used to. Plus, a few keys in nonstandard places, combined with tiny directional arrows and a few other quirks, makes the X205TA an exercise in relearning how to type on a laptop.
The chiclet keyboard has well-spaced keys, and someone moving from a full size laptop to the EeeBook will have the initial annoyance while typing, but over time it gets better. I could comfortably type on the EeeBook motion le1700 akku thanks to the tactility of the keys. Although it may look like the keys do not have enough travel, but they get the work done. In fact, this whole review was typed on the EeeBook, which points to the fact that the keyboard lends itself well to long typing sessions. Having said that, people with large palms may find the keyboard a bit congested.
The trackpad is quite large and is a single slab of plastic. For a netbook, such a huge trackpad is quite unconventional. Asus claims to have used the same touch technology it uses with its smartphone touch displays. On the whole the mouse response is good, but the single button for left and right clicks can be a bit annoying. The trackpad ad820m0 charger supports gestures such as two-finger pinch, webpage scrolling and Windows 8 edge gestures. The X205TA features a familiar Chiclet-style keyboard with a fairly standard actuation weight of 58 grams.
At 4.1 x 2.45 inches, the X205TA's touchpad is generously sized for such a small system, and larger than the already ample touchpad on the HP Stream 11 (3.75 x 2.5 inches). Mousing around was generally smooth and precise, but when it came time to use gestures such as two-finger scrolling, it performed erratically. Even after resetting the touchpad to default settings, the response to multifinger gestures was random and unpredictable.
Display
The 11.6-inch display comes with a 1366 x 788 pixel resolution. The colours appear vivid and text appears legible. There was no point while using the laptop, that I had to strain my eyes to read what I was typing. Watching movies is a good experience on the X205TA samsung np3530ec battery, but do not play high bit rate full HD movies on this, there will be a lot of stutter. HD movies played back without any hitch. The black levels are not the best and I did see a minor backlight bleed along the corners of the display. As for games, only the entry level ones will work.
Sometimes, PC makers skimp on the displays for budget machines, but the Asus X205TA's screen is a tier above those on other notebooks in its price range. Compared to the HP Stream 11, the X205TA acer g236hl power supply did a good job of showing off Ironman's shiny red Hulkbuster armor as he battled the suddenly undersize olive-green Hulk in The Avengers: Age of Ultron trailer. While I still prefer my desktop monitor's more vibrant display, I didn't really miss it when using the X205TA like I did on the Stream 11.
The X205TA produced 217 nits of brightness on our tests -- higher than the HP Stream 11's 165 nits and the Acer Chromebook C720P's 183 nits, but behind the ultraportable average of 260 nits. The X205TA slate 10 charger cable has a limited color range but is still much better than the competition, with the Asus recreating 68.2 percent of the sRGB color gamut. That tops the HP Stream 11 (64.2 percent) and the Acer C720P (58 percent). The only area where the X205TA faltered was on color accuracy, notching a Delta-E rating of 9.4 (closer to 0 is best). That's slightly behind the Stream 11's score of 7.9 but still ahead of the C720P's score of 10.1.
Performance
The X205TA's specs don't look like much on paper, but in the real world, its 1.33-GHz Intel Atom Z3735 quad-core CPU, 2GB of RAM and 32GB of flash storage can easily handle your typical computing needs. I streamed 1080p videos from YouTube without a hitch, and browsing the Web with more than six tabs open in Internet Explorer or Chrome was also hassle-free.Being so small and cheap, we had tempered our expectations for the EeeBook X205TA’s power adaptor for t100ta dk005h performance. In order to be a good buy, it needed to be able to run a web browser with plenty of tabs open, handle a few videos and, of course, run all of the Office applications without fuss. In our time with the laptop we didn’t run into any major problems, although with Google Chrome, Word and Excel all open around 1.5GB of the maximum 2GB of RAM was in use at all times. You’ll have to exercise a little restraint if you’re a heavy user.
Considering it comes with the Atom Bay Trail processor, the performance numbers are not the best. In terms of benchmark tests, the EeeBook lags behind the more powerful Core series notebooks. This is expected. But when it came to real life scenarios where the EeeBook asus transformer book t100 charger will be used, it performs well. For instance regular applications work fine (and no Photoshop CS5 does not come under that category). Multi-tab browsing does not slow down the system. It has a capable set of speakers which are loud enough to work in a single room, but not enough to drown out traffic noise.
Battery life
The Asus EeeBook X205 comes with a 38 Whr battery and promises a 12-hour battery life. A 12-hour battery life is a tall claim and we ran the PC Mark 8 utility which gave a battery life of 8 hours 35 mins. Now while this may certainly not equal the 12-hour claim, in the netbook category this is quite a long-lasting battery. The standby time is also quite impressive. The EeeBook X205 hp probook 470 g1 power adapter can easily last you a working day, and you can easily extract close to 9-9.5 hours on regular use case. It also retains the battery life quite well, when in the idle mode.
Even though the X205TA has a low-power CPU and a small screen, I did not expect it to jump near the top of our list of longest-lasting laptops. But the X205TA crushed its competition on the Laptop Mag Battery Test (continuous Web surfing over Wi-Fi at 100 nits), with a runtime of 12 hours and 5 minutes on a single charge. This runtime is nearly double the battery life of the HP cinema hd display 90w power adapter Stream 11 (6:34), the Acer V3-111p (6:22) and the Acer Chromebook C720 (6:18). The only systems that matched the X205TA's battery life were Asus' own C200M Chromebook (12:27) and the much more expensive $1,000 2014 13-inch MacBook Air (12:20). The ultraportable average pales in comparison, at just 7:57.
The quad-core, 1.33GHz Atom Z3735F procssor inside the X205TA is from Intel's new Bay Trail-T range. Bay Trail-T is normally found in cheap Windows tablets and its presence in a fully-fledged laptop did initially cause us some concern. Our worry was short-lived though: in our challenging multimedia benchmarking tests it managed an overall score of 19, where 100 represents a Core i5 desktop lenovo thinkcentre m72e tiny ac power adapter machine. A score of 19 at this price is actually fairly impressive, and while Windows 8.1 doesn’t exactly feel snappy and super responsive with this chip, we weren’t left twiddling our thumbs waiting for programs to open either. Web pages with lots of elements such as images, videos, comments and advertising will take a few seconds to load, though. You also won’t be able to do advanced tasks such as photo and video editing, and the latest games are well beyond the reach of this machine, but at this price you really can’t ask for much more.
